In Latvia, in February 2021, compared to February 2020, the retail trade turnover decreased by 8.5%, according to the calendar-adjusted data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) at constant prices.
Retail trade of food products increased by 1.7%. The volume of retail trade of non-food products, excluding retail sale of automotive fuel, decreased by 21.5%, automotive fuel – increased by 5.2%.
Compared to February 2020, the most significant increase in turnover was in retail sale via mail order houses or in Internet shops (by 20.5%) and retail sale of electrical household appliances (by 20%). A significant decrease in turnover was recorded in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (by 63.9%), retail sale of cultural and recreational goods (by 37%) and non-specialized stores, which mainly sell non-food products (by 35.7%).
The total turnover of retail trade enterprises at current prices, excluding the effect of calendar days, decreased by 9%.
In February 2021, compared to January, According to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased by 4.4%. Retail trade in food products increased by 4%. Retail trade in non-food products, excluding retail sale of automotive fuel, increased by 7.2%, retail sale of automotive fuel decreased by 0.1%.
Compared to the previous month, the most significant increase in turnover was in non-specialized stores, which mainly sell non-food products (by 16.5%), retail sale of cosmetic and toilet articles (by 16.3%) and retail sale of electrical household appliances (by 11%). The largest decrease in turnover was in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (by 4.2%).
In February 2021, compared to January, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises at current prices, excluding seasonality, increased by 2.6%.
