Joliette strongman Jeffrey Tabah has announced that he will be taking part in the prestigious worldwide Arnold Classic competition to be held in Columbus, Ohio. He managed to earn a bye to this major event by winning the Canadian Amateur Strongman Championship in the 105kg and under category after working hard for years.
Dominique Ducharme is fired from his position as head coach
On February 9, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens announced the firing of his head coach, Dominique Ducharme. As the roster found itself at the bottom of the overall standings, the organization said it was in the team’s best interest to make changes. Dominique Ducharme, on the other hand, led the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Final, something that hadn’t happened since 1993.
The Sainte-Béatrix church is put up for sale
The Fabrique St-Pierre de Belles-Montagnes decided to put the Sainte-Béatrix church up for sale in mid-February. At first the municipality had expressed its interest in acquiring the plant. Although some steps had been taken in this direction, Fabrique took this decision after perceiving a certain change of orientation of the new municipal council regarding the acquisition of the church.
The BMR hardware store in Joliette is closing its doors
The Novago Cooperative announced the closure of the BMR hardware store in Joliette, which resulted in the layoff of five employees and two other warehouse workers. Even though the employees of the plant were already on strike to oppose, among other things, serious disruptions to their working conditions, they took advantage of February 17 to denounce the closure.
