In Europe, the incidence of Covid-19 is forecast to rise sharply in August

Epidemiological trends in the European Union (EU) are becoming worrying again – the EU Disease Prevention and Control Service forecasts a multiple increase in the number of new cases of Covid-19 in the coming weeks, reports TV3 News.

Last week, the cumulative figure per 100,000 inhabitants in Europe was 90. However, given the rapid spread of the Delta species, European epidemiologists warn that this figure could rise to around 420 by 1 August. A week later, the figure could reach 620.

Several countries report renewing restrictions. France for unvaccinated travelers has set stricter rules on the validity of tests. In Spain, in the region around Barcelona, command hours resumed; from next week there are also plans to resume the mandatory wearing of masks outdoors. Locals say the Spanish government had released the reins too quickly – in May.

“I think we went too fast. The government relied too much on the integrity of the people. That people get vaccinated. But young people do not. Big concerts and large public gatherings started everywhere and now we see the result. ”

The Catalan authorities have canceled the planned holidays for health workers this weekend, as the load on intensive care beds is expected to increase.

The two-week cumulative rate in Spain on July 17 reached 450 cases per 100,000 population.
