In Eure-et-Loir, the lack of manpower is still felt in the hotel and catering trades

“We take stock of 2020, which was a year of transition, with long months of closures, and with a change of presidency at the head of Umih 28”, explains in the preamble Rudy Carnis, president since October 2020, who was reappointed at this general meeting.

The members of the federation, which brings together professionals in the catering, hotel industry, cafes and nightlife establishments, spoke of the sector, particularly affected by the health crisis. “It was an unprecedented moment, and we had many discussions, tried to answer questions and concerns as much as possible,” adds Rudy Carnis.

“We have sent nearly 300 circulars to our members. The recovery in May without most of the tourists did not have the expected rebound effect. “Honestly, it’s not a good year. Fortunately, the aid allowed us to get back on the water ”. However, some events were held, such as the Gourmet Fortnight, organized from October 5 to 18, 2020.

The important issue of recruitment

But what caught the attention of the professionals present are the issues of today. The lack of manpower, the difficulties of recruitment, “linked in part to working conditions and schedules, like the professions”, recalls Vincent Leprevost, at the head of the Departmental Directorate of Employment, of work, solidarity and the protection of populations (DDETSPP). He illustrated this problem with a number: the number of job offers in the sector increased by 38% between 2019 (before the crisis) and today.

In the department, it is estimated that the real offer is 300 positions for the different trades

“It is in Eure-et-Loir that the offer of offers is the strongest”, he adds. For this week alone, 84 advertisements were posted on the Pôle Emploi site, for the Chartres sector. “In the department, it is estimated that the real offer is 300 positions for the various trades”, adds the president of Umih 28.

To cope with these recruitment tensions, the director of the DDETSPP insists: “We are working on the attractiveness of professions, and there has also been the reform of unemployment insurance. We are in contact with the federation to put targeted actions in Chartres and in Dunois, through forums, solutions around mobility, etc. “

The professionals also addressed the issue of guidance for young people, and the way in which these professions could be better represented within the National Education, and in particular quite early in college.

Finally, the professionals present also insisted on the ease with which they were able to reach aid during the closings of establishments. “We paid, in Eure-et-Loir, 97 million euros, for the partial activity,” adds Vincent Leprevost.
