In Estonia, the World Rally Championship stage will take place next year as well

On Friday, the International Automobile Federation (SON) Approved by the World Motorsport Council SON World Rally Championship (WRC) The calendar for 2021 also includes the Estonian Rally, which will take place in Tartu and the south of Estonia from 15 to 18 July, the organizers of the competition report on Monday.

The report says that the Estonian rally stage in September this year is the first stage of the world championship, which was attended by such a large audience in Covid-19, and which ended without new cases of infection. It was probably an additional plus for the organizers to have Estonia on the WRC calendar again next year.

“Estonia has become a world-class rally country. The opportunity to bring the best rally world drivers to Estonia and to organize international competitions on a larger scale means trust in us, ”says Estonian Prime Minister Jiri Ratass. “We organized an exemplary event this year, organized by the Rally Estonia team in cooperation with sponsors and Estonians in just 63 days.”

“In addition to being the world rally champion, we are also masters in organizing world-class rally competitions,” said Estonian Minister of Culture Tenis Lukass, who noted Estonia’s success in the WRC. “As long as we do not have the right to host the Olympics, we will organize all the competitions as if we were organizing the Olympics.”

“I am extremely pleased that next year’s Rally Estonia will take place as a WRC event, where hundreds of millions of people around the world will see the beautiful natural and cultural attractions of Southern Estonia and the Jõgeva area,” Luke rejoices.

“There are all the prerequisites for success – experience in organizing ideal competitions in difficult conditions, good cooperation between the organizers and the state and an excellent audience of Estonian fans,” he points out Estonia’s advantages in organizing such competitions.

“The approval to include Rally Estonia in the 2021 World Championship calendar was expected and not surprising – this year the organizers proved that the race at the highest level is conducted excellently even in the most difficult conditions for an extremely limited period of time,” explains Janis Kāls, board member of the Estonian Motorsport Union.

“Undoubtedly, this recognition is intended for thousands of people who took part in the preparation and conduct of the rally in any way this year. I agree with those who say that the home stage of the World Championship is the best opportunity to discover the potential of the local rally elite, ”he adds. “We hope that next year we will be able to manage health risks less and that we will be able to use more resources to create positive emotions.”

“In ten years, the team of Rally Estonia organizers has developed into a team that can overcome even seemingly insurmountable difficulties,” says Rally Estonia director Urmo Āva. “However, we have not done it alone. We have had strong partners in the private, public and international sectors for years. And in 2020 we had a unique opportunity to organize the first stage of the FIA World Rally Championship in the history of Estonia. I can say that the Estonian rally, which took place in September, together we succeeded by 101%. ”

He adds that the successful organization of the event this year has led to the fact that in 2021 “Rally Estonia” will be on the calendar of the FIA World Rally Championship.

Rally Estonia as the stage of the 2021 FIA World Rally Championship will take place in Tartu and the south of Estonia from 15 to 18 July 2021.

Next year’s WRC will start with the Monte Carlo stage from 21 to 24 January. The season will continue in Sweden, Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Kenya, but the Estonian stage is planned as the seventh of the 12 stages. After the Estonian competition, the participants will move to Finland, ending the season with rallies from Great Britain, Chile, Spain and Japan, finishing in Japan on November 14.

Together with Turkey, Belgium, Greece, Italy (on the Monza route) and Argentina, Latvia has also been named as a reservist in the event of unforeseen disruptions caused by Covid-19 obstacles.
