In Ensisheim, a festive and protesting rally on Saturday against the arrival of Amazon

A festive event at midday on Saturday May 15 aims to revive opposition to the e-commerce warehouse project in southern Alsace.

The return of spring and the gradual deconfinement mark the return of protest and festive events. In the Haut-Rhin in Ensisheim, opponents of the giant warehouse project “Eurovia 16”, tailor-made for Amazon or a competitor meet on Saturday May 15.

The RUCSSA (South Alsace Climate and Social Emergencies Network) and Le Chaudron des Alternatives collectives will offer a “spring festival” from 11 am to 3 pm at the roundabout at the end of departmental road 2 at the entrance of the town, opposite the gendarmerie national.

Musical entertainment and snacks (“take away”) will be offered. But the event is above all political. A press release the opponents recall:

“This project should extend over 16 hectares of agricultural land and would have serious consequences locally on the economy and the living environment of the inhabitants; but also more generally on the climate, biodiversity, employment and the maintenance of local shops. “

Appeals in preparation

In December 2020, the Haut-Rhin Prefecture issued the environmental authorization authorizing the work. The project should first meet several appeals. Amazon assured that it had no project in Alsace, before specifying “not for five years”.

In February and March, the collectives called on the deputies of the sector to support a “freeze” of establishments of this type on the occasion of the “Climate Law”. The amendment was ultimately rejected by the National Assembly.
