At a press conference from the ECU 911 of Samborondón, the head of the Health Portfolio explained that citizens over 50 years of age who have received the third injection against the coronavirus, at least five months ago, will be able to go to health centers nationwide for a second booster dose (fourth injection).
Garzón assured that Ecuador has a sufficient batch of vaccines to apply the first and second booster doses to its population.
On his side, the president of the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE), Juan Zapata, who was also at the press conference, referred to the use of masks in outdoor spaces.
He said that the use of face masks should still be mandatory, despite the fact that Ecuador has one of the “best health indicators in the region.”
Zapata added that they will evaluate this measure 15 days after the Easter holiday, the date on which several processions are expected to take place nationwide.
In Ecuador, more than five million people have already received the third injection against COVID-19, while 85% of the population has two doses of the vaccine, according to figures from the Ministry of Public Health.
