In Draguignan, the artists of the “Perchés au théâtre” festival warn of their financial difficulties

The setting is ideal. Perched at the Green Theater of the clock island, Florence Lamanna and Adrien Ajello, from the association Les Coulisses perchées, are setting up the equipment for the last theatrical evening in Draguignan.

“If it weren’t for the crushing heat we would spend all our days here”, launches the actor, a T-shirt protecting his head from sunstroke. He stands there, on the natural stage which has welcomed him alongside Florence Lamanna for several days.

“Our biggest evening brought together 150 people. It’s a treat”, confides the creator of the event. But now, this year, they were forced to create a ticket office to ensure this fifth edition.

“Lately, I was taking on my savings, but it is no longer possible”, she regrets. So, for the three Dracénoises evenings, they asked for a participation of 7 and 12 euros from the public, depending on the shows. “It hurt our hearts, but everyone was very understanding and supportive. The crowd was there.”

In Châteaudouble next week

Next Thursday, August 11, they will settle in Châteaudouble, at the belvedere and on the Sainte-Anne esplanade. Admission will be free. “You will be able to enjoy superb plays by actors from all over the world and also ours with Adrien. This is the story of a psychorigid psychologist and her neighbor who listens to the music a little too loudly…”

Organizers, actors, the couple accumulates caps. “I would like to thank my partner, who also manages the management and all the daily galleys. It is thanks to him that we hold on.” But that can only last for a while.

Beyond the financial aspect, the Festival perché needs small hands. “Even if it’s only a few hours here and there. Just enough to allow us to rotate and come back next year, to continue to offer high quality content.”
