In Dijon, the municipal team, led by the socialist mayor François Rebsamen, is pursuing a policy of densification of housing. For her, the challenge is twofold: it is not only a question of responding to a growing demand for housing in the territory (9,000 applications pending), but also of avoiding urban sprawl which “nibbles” agricultural land and “requires heavy investment” in terms of equipment (roads, transport, etc.).
Thus, the local intermunicipal urban plan, entered into force in 2020 , provides for the construction of 15,000 new housing units in the Dijon metropolis, 60% of which in Dijon, the central city, for the next ten years. Over this same period, only 20 hectares of agricultural land can be used to carry out urban extensions.
The population of the territory should thus increase from 252,000 to 270,000 inhabitants.
