For the 4th Dijon rally against the so-called Global Security law, the mobilization is more modest on January 16. By mid-morning, nearly 300 people gathered in front of the Côte-d’Or prefecture. 80 similar gatherings were organized in France, notably in Mâcon and Auxerre.
“We are here today, as we were at the beginning of December, for the withdrawal of the Global Security Act, which seems to us to be setting the country on a dangerous and authoritarian path. We don’t want a police company, entrustsRené Carruge, representative of the Marcel-Martinet circle of free thought in Dijon. We deplore in particular this article 24, which establishes a surveillance society for all professional categories, starting with journalists. “

A controversial law
“We are still worried about a certain number of freedoms “ challenged by this law, says Paul Garrigues, co-president of the Dijon section of the League of Human Rights (LDH). “We are particularly attentive to the restrictions on freedom of information and to demonstrate, and on the registration of demonstrators. To mention in police files syncidal membership or sexual orientation is absolutely scandalous!” he asserts.

The proposed “global security” law and its article 24, the most contested, which provides for restricting the video recording of police officers, is denounced by its detractors as a “liberticide” law, especially in journalistic circles. The text, adopted at first reading in the National Assembly on November 24, 2020, is currently being examined by the Senate.
