In Dijon, Eqiom wants to recycle more construction waste

Sent Oct 16, 2022 12:38 pm

Eqiom (formerly Holcim France), producer of concrete, cement and aggregates, wants to enhance its platform dedicated to the circular economy in Dijon. The result of a partnership, in 2018, between Eqiom and the Colas construction group, the site specializes in the recycling of materials from public works and construction sites. For the moment it processes 40,000 tons of products per year.

“We could very quickly double this capacity. The platform is proceeding very quickly, “Myriam Peltier, head of the Eqiom Granulats agency recently told France Bleu Bourgogne. The Dijon unit receives concrete or asphalt rubble from construction sites in the region. Once sorted and crushed, it can be reused as backfill for earthworks and, for some months now, as materials for ready-mixed concrete. “The quality level of the product is systematically checked”, explains the manager.

120 employees

Eqiom employs 120 people in Côte-d’Or, of which 70 in the branch of the aggregates. On a national level, the group, which has 1,500 employees, processes over 570,000 tons of waste from the construction sector.

“The quarrying and building materials sector, of which Eqiom is a part, is about to reach its European targets for the recycling of rubble. It is now aiming for a record level of 90% in 2025. This ambitious project would cover 30% of the overall needs of construction operators in France, “the group said last March during the inauguration of its Gennevilliers platform. (Hauts-de- Senna), also dedicated to the recovery of materials, but also to the management of polluted land.
