It is a duo and a couple that we receive this Wednesday in the studios of France Bleu. Maurane Oudin and Charles Ferry, the two artists who hide behind the Youtube channel “Cover au balcon”, launched in the wake of the first confinement. Before, they sang in bars, in restaurants: but that was before.
“In summer, it could be two, three concerts a week, on the terrace, in Djion, Auxerre, or Chalon-sur-Saône”, explains Maurane Oudin. “We even had to go to Poitiers last summer, and there you have it, everything has been canceled. And it’s true that we miss this bar-restaurant atmosphere a lot.”
As the confinement begins on March 17, 2020, the duo are wondering how to adapt. the solution will come from the Italians: “We saw them singing on their balconies on social networks and in the news. The problem is that our balcony does not face the street, but an interior courtyard. So we decided to stay on our interior balcony , and to film these intimate performances, before sharing them on the networks, by creating a Youtube channel. ”
“Cover au balcon”, so this is the name of this channel whose completely homemade videos, “with an iPhone on the windowsill”, some exceed several thousand views. “We also asked people on the networks, what they wanted to hear. We still have work to do, the last performance was in the fall, it’s been a little cold since then.”
Benefits noticed after an article in Bien Public, which made it possible to find the public during the enchanted parenthesis of last summer: “We were contacted after the first confinement, and we were able to do a few dates last summer. We were lucky, people couldn’t do a concert at all. In total, between the duo and my solo project, I was able to do about ten dates, and it’s a huge chance, because it was very limited between early July and mid-September “, says Charles Ferry, which is indeed accompanied by the Steam solo as artist in residence.
Concerts of the future at the window … or by phone
What will their concerts look like in the coming months? Probably not to those before the crisis, at least not right away. “We had a little taste last summer in Chalon-sur-Saône, in the bar of a very good friend. We had a concert at the window, no one in the bar, us at the window, the people on the terrace. People could see us through a window. It was a little frustrating at first, but everyone was so happy to see a concert again that it was a great evening “, remembers Maurane Oudin.
Another possibility: concerts by telephone, offered to people who only have to call to listen to music on the other end of the line.
