In Daugavpils it is planned to restrict visits to social care centers – Regions

As the number of Covid-19 cases in the city increases, it is planned to restrict visits to social care centers in Daugavpils, confirmed the mayor of the city Igor Prelatov (“Our Party”).

According to him, most of the cases diagnosed in the city are related to returning from abroad. In Daugavpils, senior students who have worked abroad in the summer have fallen ill, but they have warned about what happened in time and have not started the school year in the school premises. According to the chairman of the council, the contact persons of the sick employees of the municipal company JSC “Daugavpils satiksme” and the student of the 16th secondary school, who are in self-isolation, have also been identified.

“Previously, we did not see an increasing trend, there were not many cases,” Prelatov said.

Although the city has a number of public events over the weekend, the local area is not expected to affect morbidity rates, as the activities took place outdoors, subject to all gathering restrictions and conditions. Even after the events of the beginning of the school year, there were no new cases related to gatherings, the mayor stated, emphasizing again that the cases are mostly related to people who have been abroad.

The municipality is also in regular contact with the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) and no changes are currently planned in the work of municipal institutions. However, the possibility of restricting visits to social care centers where members of the risk group live will be discussed.

It has already been reported that starting today, one of the 9th grades of Daugavpils Secondary School No. 16 is taught remotely, because one of the students has been diagnosed with Covid-19. The sick student has attended school, so a decision has been made to distance learning for all classmates. Olga Dukšinska, the director of the institution, explained that on Sunday the school, the Board of Education and epidemiologists worked to identify families and ensure the distance learning process.

Covid-19 tests were performed by school staff before the start of the school year and were negative. It is planned that the school staff will take the tests this week as well. The institution must also submit a plan for the organization of the further learning process by the middle of the week.

It has also been reported that Covid-19 has been diagnosed in two employees of the municipal JSC “Daugavpils siltumtīkli”. Daugavpils municipality executive director Sabīne Šņepste said that Covid-19 tests were performed on other employees of the company, but they were negative. It is planned that repeated tests will be performed over time. The sick are in quarantine at home.

Despite the fact that since the beginning of September there has been an increase in morbidity in the city, both “Daugavpils siltumtīkli” and other municipal companies and institutions continue to work in the usual mode. Šnepste emphasized that Covid-19 had not been found in any of the employees of the council or municipal institutions.

The municipality also has no information about possible Covid-19 foci in the city.

According to SPKC data, the increase in morbidity in Daugavpils has been observed since the beginning of September, and during this time the number of cases has increased several times. By Sunday, there were 21 known Covid-19 patients in the city.

At the end of August, LETA reported that at the beginning of the new school year, one student in Daugavpils would be provided with a remote learning process in quarantine, because his family was diagnosed with Covid-19.
