In Daugavpils, a fight begins with cars abandoned in yards and parking lots – Traffic – News

The site explains that the problem of abandoned cars in the city has been raised several times, residents have complained that

Abandoned cars that occupy parking lots or simply rust and degrade the environment stand for weeks, months or even years in yards, parking lots or roadsides.

Until now, none of the city bodies had a legal opportunity to prevent such situations, but this month, city council deputies authorized the Municipal Police to make decisions on recognizing the vehicle as being left on the road for a long time.

Previously, after receiving a complaint from the residents about a long-abandoned car parked without violating the traffic rules, the municipal police officers were not authorized to make a decision to declare it abandoned. The police will now be able to declare a vehicle left on the road for a long time if it is parked on the road and is not used for more than 45 days, or for more than 15 days if the car has not been inspected by the state.

After affixing the warning sticker to the vehicle, the police will also send the warning to the owner of the vehicle, if he can be identified. The warning will state that the vehicle must be moved within the prescribed time so that it is not deemed to be left for a long time and is not forcibly transferred to a special parking lot.

The municipality has yet to coordinate a number of issues regarding car transport and other procedures in connection with the police mandate.

However, the decision allows to start solving the problem of abandoned cars, stressed the city council.
