In Cumberland County, Shapiro Administration Hosts Roundtable on Improving Maternal Health | Department of Human Services – Governor Tom Wolf

Pennsylvania Takes Aim at Improving Maternal Health

Across Pennsylvania, conversations are heating up around a critical issue: the well-being of mothers before, during, and after pregnancy.

Cumberland County recently hosted a roundtable discussion organized by the Shapiro Administration and the Department of Human Services. This proactive step aims to tackle the complex challenges surrounding maternal health in the state. "We need to ensure that every mother in Pennsylvania has access to the quality care they deserve," declared a representative from the Shapiro Administration during the Cumberland County event.

These conversations are urgently needed. Pennsylvania is actively developing a comprehensive Maternal Health Strategic Plan, and public input is crucial to its success. Additionally, Lackawanna County officials recently met with the Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Arkoosh to discuss the barriers preventing mothers from receiving adequate care.

"Every mother deserves access to affordable, quality health care both before and after pregnancy," stressed Secretary Arkoosh in Scranton, highlighting the urgency of addressing these disparities.

The push for a robust maternal health plan extends beyond local discussions. A statewide survey seeks feedback from Pennsylvanians on the existing landscape and future direction of maternal health care. This collaborative effort highlights the commitment to understanding the needs of mothers across the state.

"We want to hear from Pennsylvanians about their experiences with maternal health care and what we can do to improve it," urged a representative from the state in a recent announcement.

As the state prioritizes the health and well-being of mothers, the voices of Pennsylvanians will be instrumental in shaping a brighter future for families across the Commonwealth.
