We are talking about the battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan. Ablyamitov was charged with “participation in an illegal armed group.”
In the “court” he said that he was in the civil association “Asker” officially registered in Ukraine, which actually turned into a detachment named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan in 2016 – after he was denied official status.
It is reported that several people who were also in the battalion testified against Ablyamitov. At the meeting on January 21, Aydin Mamutov, previously convicted on a similar charge, retracted his testimony. He said that the FSB officers brought him ready-made interrogation protocols for signing, but they did not allow him to read them and in fact falsified the case materials.
The Noman Chelebidzhikhan Battalion is a Crimean voluntary armed formation named after the first chairman of the government of the Crimean People’s Republic. It was created from the participants of the action “Civil blockade of Crimea”, who advocated the termination of commodity supplies to Crimea from mainland Ukraine and blocked checkpoints since September 2015. One of the coordinators of the blockade of Crimea, Lenur Islyamov, said that the Crimean Tatar battalion was fulfilling the tasks set by the General Staff, but the main task was to protect the Crimean border in Crimea itself. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine refused to give the formation an official status.
