in Côte-d’Or, mayors oppose business closures

With the re-containment, all “non-essential” businesses are ordered to close their doors, since Friday, October 30, 2020. But since then, the controversy has swelled! Some elected officials of Côte-d’Or denounce a lack of fairness, between large brands and large-scale distribution which can continue to operate, and local businesses which must lower the curtain.

The reactions of mayors in the department

In Côte-d’Or, we see several positions taken by elected officials : the mayor of Dijon François Rebsamen intends to take an order to allow the reopening of bookstores. The mayor of Chevigny-Saint-Sauveur, Guillaume Ruet, will take a decree on Monday to reopen all businesses. “I ask the government to quickly review the definition of essential trade and expand it”, indicates for his part the president of the association of mayors of Côte-d’Or, Ludovic Rochette. “The aim of this initiative is above all to put pressure on the government at a national level so that it understands that it is not acceptable to favor large-scale distribution over our local shops during this so difficult period”, summarizes the mayor of Beaune Alain Suguenot.
