In Côte-d’Or, being disabled is always a barrier to hiring

In the heart of the National Employment Week for people with disabilities, a forum was organized this Wednesday in Dijon, Grésilles district. We talk about it with one of the organizers of the event, Angelo Toffoli.

France Bleu Bourgogne: What still needs to be improved for the recruitment, the recruitment of people with disabilities?

Angelo Toffoli: The event was made to promote meetings and exchanges between partners, therefore structures, it is Pôle Emploi, Agefiph, Afnor, among others. But there is also the Afpa and all these structures that support companies to enable them to facilitate or implement everything possible to integrate people with disabilities.

What is still blocking in detail today, in 2021?

Speaker 1: There are atavisms. There is a habit, a belief that people in this situation are going to put the brakes on the business, the structures, that they are going to be a heavy burden for the people with whom they work. So this is a situation that remains, that remains. On the other hand, the companies which were there at the forum were benevolent companies, favorable to this integration.

If you have an invisible disability, should it be reported, for example, to all potential employers?

There, it is often on a case-by-case basis depending on the position that we are going to integrate, depending on the person who is on the position. It is said that specifying the disability situation is favorable for everyone, since it will clarify and straighten things out from the start. But there is not a ready-made answer.

And to help job seekers with disabilities, which organizations in Côte d’Or can we rely on?

You can ask for help from Cap Emploi 21, which is the branch of Pôle Emploi, with people, advisers who are there to promote, psychologically and humanely help all people in this situation. And it was Cap Emploi which organized the Forum yesterday.
