In companies, the return of employees to the office is spreading, but under different conditions

While the pandemic has had a lasting impact on our relationship with the office with the generalization of telecommuting, it seems employees are once again finding pleasure in commuting to their workplace on a regular basis… under certain conditions.

According to a study published by the CSA Research Institute, the trend is for corporate employees to return to the office. After the generalization of teleworking linked to the pandemic and health restrictions, only 8% of executives say they have difficulty getting their employees back to the office and 75% of employees admit they enjoy being back at work.

Spaces “better than at home”

A place of sociality, productivity… The office is above all a place where employees can meet, discuss and share. On the other hand, teleworking is firmly anchored in workers’ habits and 70% of those interviewed state that they use it on average two days a week. A new pace that requires companies to adjust premises accordingly and employees to equip themselves to work in good conditions at home. Therefore, 73% of managers admit that it is now essential to offer workspaces that entice people to bring employees to the office. “Better than home” spaces and accessibility and location are becoming important criteria. The location remains the first criterion for commercial premises for managers (51%) but also for employees (54%).

Recovery of the commercial real estate market

Also according to the study, these new trends are also impacting the real estate market. After an extremely complicated 2020, the corporate real estate market has returned to growth, driven by entrepreneurial projects to choose a better location or review the size of one’s office. 43% of employers say they have had a property project for over two years and 8% want to move to larger, more affordable or more modern premises. On the other hand, the metaverse and virtual reality don’t seem to be very attractive for companies and their employees as only 3% of workers imagine their office in this kind of virtual space.
