Mayor Kašpar recalled that a total of four Allied air raids took place on Kolín, the last of them shortly before the end of the war on April 18, 1945. “During this last air raid, the cargo and marshalling station was completely destroyed, as well as Draslovka, on which more than 200 bombs fell that day . A large number of them did not explode, they were then cleaned up by the prisoners,” said Michael Kašpar in his speech.
The day of the rescuers started with the passing of the equipment, which was then presented on Karlov náměstí
However, the last days of the war were not very happy in Cologne, as German troops shot many people and killed some of them. Their commander imposed martial law in the city and even threatened to burn down several houses. “9. On the morning of May, the first tanks of the Red Army appeared in Kolín,” added Kašpar. They finally liberated the city.
