More than a month after police commissioner Matthieu Valet filed a complaint of pure contempt against Moustapha Thiam, deputy mayor of Choisy-le-Roi, the case went before the Créteil court on Monday. The case was remanded to the criminal court. The elected, who is deemed insufficiently supported by the majority, is considering boycotting the city council.
The case dates back to the evening of Thursday 15 September. Moustapha Thiam, 14th deputy responsible for training and learning, is at home, in the Jacques-Cartier residential complex in Choisy-le-Roi, when a fight breaks out. A group throws bullets at a police patrol who retaliates by shooting grenades. One of these munitions set fire to several third-party cars. Several residents, including the deputy mayor, come down to see what’s going on. According to the testimony of the elected, he would then have made a small mediation to calm spirits, in agreement with the police, but the situation would have turned against him with the arrival of the commissioner on duty, Matthieu Valet, goalkeeper. the Independent Union of Police Commissioners (SICP). The latter would have spoken badly to a young man and the deputy would have reproached him. This is what would have triggered his arrest and detention in police custody.

Upon completion of his police custody the following day, the elected official received a summons before the Créteil Judicial Court for a prior admission of guilt (CRPC) appearance. This procedure makes it possible to judge a person who admits the disputed facts more quickly. However, Moustapha Thiam has always claimed his innocence. “It is outrageous to use such methods. I can only explain it with the political tenor of the dossier. I have accessed the file. She only produces his testimony and explains that he has not been able to seize the CCTV tapes to prove the claim. We have recovered them and intend to produce them to prove that my client is not indicted.”explains the lawyer of the elected, I Lydia Berchiche.
This Monday, during the hearing, the prosecution acknowledged that Moustapha Thiam had never acknowledged the facts and that the use of this procedure was a mistake. The case was then referred to the Criminal Court of Créteil. No date has yet been communicated but the defense expects a postponement of about a year.

Beyond the legal ramifications, this case could also have political repercussions.
