The case of the chestnut groves continues, a true judicial and environmental soap opera, in progress since mid-August. The saga has recently taken a new turn. From Monday 26 September “not only is the felling of trees suspended, but a fine of one and a half million euros, or 500 thousand euros per tree, is envisaged, which will dissuade the promoter from coming to cut them”, details the ecologist, pleasantly surprised by these astronomical figures.
We recall that on 7 September the promoter had launched a provisional summons before the court of Chartres to ask for the expulsion of the environmentalists present on his site, a private place. Not only was his request rejected, but he was also sentenced to pay 2,000 euros to the Chartres Écologie association and the same sum to the Sykadap association, or a fine of 4,000 euros in total. According to information from The republican echothe promoter, through his lawyer, immediately challenged this decision.
Mayor Jean-Pierre Gorges denounces political action
The various real estate projects around these chestnut groves, both on the Courtille side and on the rue Victor-Gilbert, are still the subject of litigation appeals to the court and the municipality, “graceful appeals, others for excess of power, deferred in suspension …” In short, the three fruit trees have not finished talking about it. “We are very satisfied with this result because the promoter will certainly not be able to do anything else on this plot.” And the environmentalists do not intend to stop there: “We will see other sites in Chartres and Agglo to act against projects that they will seem praised. “
For his part, the LR mayor of Chartres, Jean-Pierre Gorges, denounces “a low-level political action, of people against the evolution of life and who want degrowth. Furthermore, according to the city councilor, “the trees in a city are not immutable”. “There are trees in a wooded area to be preserved.
