In Chartres, masked faithful to accompany the Sailing

An unprecedented August 15 celebration. In the garden of the diocesan house, the starting point of the Assumption procession, families, couples and solitary faithful responded to the call of the diocese, this Saturday, August 15, despite the health situation.

Wearing a mask will be imposed this weekend around Chartres Cathedral

Before introducing the procession in honor of the Virgin Mary, Father Blondeau recalls the sanitary instructions imposed for the weekend by the prefecture of Eure-et-Loir.

“The prefecture has issued an order obliging us, the pilgrims, to wear masks, but also the entire population present. ”

In the assembly, everyone wears their mask, despite the heat. The layout has been changed this year to avoid too busy streets. After several religious songs, Mgr Christory, Bishop of Chartres, blessed the city of Chartres.

The veil of Mary, contained in the reliquary, is about to cross the city.

Several hundred faithful then launch themselves behind the altar supporting the reliquary containing the Veil of the Virgin. From avenue d’Aligre, where the diocesan house is located, the procession arrives on boulevard Péguy.

The Butte des Charbonniers, Place Châtelet and Rue des Lisses are then the main stops before arriving at the foot of the cathedral at 4 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the August 15 procession ended at the cathedral, in front of several hundred people.

The bell tower of the cathedral rings out and invites pilgrims to take their places inside the cathedral. Barely installed, the organ plays a few notes, before giving way to prayer.

Vespers and the solemn greeting of the Blessed Sacrament welcome the faithful once the journey is over.
