In Chartres, embark on the Eure by canoe for a few hours

Let’s be clear from the start: I didn’t choose the right day to rent a canoe and paddle the Eure. This Wednesday morning, the sky is gray and the thermometer remains well (too) below 20 ° C. Whatever, you have to know how to savor the moment.
Meet Claude Roman, employee of C’Chartres Canoë-Kayak (CMCK) to borrow a two-seater canoe. Even alone, it handles very well with a double paddle… When the wind does not interfere.

From the Viron mill to Little Venice

The proposed route, achievable in an hour if there are at least two in the canoe, goes from the Viron mill to Little Venice. I decide to go up the course of the Eure. That day, many fishermen settled on the edge of the river, between the Bas-Bourgs stadium and Little Venice, I prefer not to disturb them. Once on the water, silence settles, punctuated by the lapping of the waves and the paddle. That day, it’s just me on the water. The Eure seems to belong to me. Only a few ducks and moorhens, accompanied by their young, cross my path. From below, we greet the walkers.

At Trois-Ponts, the perspective of these three structures seen from below completely changes the perception of the landscape. Then comes the prairie of Louillard. From the water, I see walkers and joggers pass, fluorescent silhouettes so close and yet they seem to evolve in another world.
When on the Eure, everything seems to slide slowly, others, on the banks, prefer to run.

Preserving the natural environment

The only downside, the idyllic setting does not make you forget a few floating cans and even … a plastic bag, fished out with a paddle. The proximity to the water, the banks and their feathered, furry or scaled inhabitants, makes us aware of the fragility of this environment, which must be protected. So, rather than throwing your trash in the river, take a bag and throw it in the trash. This will allow you, later, to admire this little piece of nature that winds through the city.
