The City of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) and former minister Claude Evin praised the courage, determination and commitment of Pierre Kalfon, doctor in Chartres.
Head of the intensive care unit since 2003 at Chartres Hospitals, head of the pneumology, emergencies, SMUR and neurology division and president of the establishment medical commission since 2011, Pierre Kalfon wears several hats.
Graduated in 1993, the doctor, born in the region of Tours (Indre-et-Loire) handled the management of the Covid-19 crisis in Chartres. Humble, he would like to point out that this medal is “the recognition of a whole collective”.
A central role of department head during the health crisis
The doctor led a study, during the health crisis, to improve oxygenation of Covid-19 patients.
“The first wave shocked citizens, the most unprecedented that it is,” recalls Pierre Kalfon. Then arrived, according to the head of service, the fatigue and lassitude of the caregivers, on the front of the second and third waves, but with still as much investment to save lives.
For Jean-Pierre Gorges, Doctor Kalfon is a hero
“It is in the storm that we recognize the brave, and you have been,” said the mayor of Chartres, Jean-Pierre Gorges.
Of course, you will tell me that you have only done your duty, that you have only responded to your vocation. But that’s precisely what heroism is: to hold on while everything crumbles.
Pierre Kalfon decorated by the National Order of Merit, the chosen one adds: “the decoration hanging on your chest will be the most accurate reflection of your own brilliance”.
