“No shocking image, just information and education”. Sophie Bleurel, municipal councilor at Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), in charge of the Animal in the City mission, has just unveiled the City’s next action: an awareness campaign against the abandonment of domestic animals, particularly focused on dogs and cats, with a view to the summer.
“France holds the sad European record for abandonment each year, according to figures from the SPA, 100,000 animals are recovered every year, including 60,000 in summer,” laments the youngest of the city council.
As a reminder and according to the Penal Code, abandon your pet is an act of cruelty and punishable by two years in prison and a fine of € 30,000.
A directory of childcare solutions, posters and flyers
Solutions exist, so as not to abandon your dog or cat before going on vacation. The City of Chartres will establish a directory, which will identify the different places of care, such as pensions “which have evolved well in recent years, animals have more freedom, moments of play”, notes the elected representative, or the people who offer the care of animals at home and host families, present in the agglomeration of Chartres.
It is up to the owner to choose the different means of care, it is he who knows his dog or cat best, and who knows which solution will suit him. The City makes the resources available, on its website, this list of solutions will be updated regularly.
A poster campaign and flyers have been created and will be distributed in the city, from June 1 to 28, 2021 then from July 20 to August 2, 2021.
