The survival of three centuries-old chestnut trees in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) is in the hands of the judges. After a setback before the administrative court of Orléans (Loiret) last week, the developer of the real estate complex, which plans to cut down the three trees on the site of the former Chamber of Trades and Crafts, has decided to file a complaint criminal charges against two activists, in this case two elected environmentalists, Quentin Guillemain and Jean-François Bridet for trespassing.
While promoter Philippe Bourguignon doesn’t strictly live on the site of this 75-unit project, he hopes to dissuade his opponents. “The promoter has also summoned two associations, Chartres Écologie and Sykadap, before the judicial court, for our activists to leave the site. But it is thanks to the mobilization of a good hundred citizens, who took turns on the spot for three weeks, that we saved these trees “, reacts Jean-François Bridet, opponent of the mayor LR Jean-Pierre Gorges, who believes that the town hall does not he must criminalize the Chartrain who disagree with his plans.
“The problem is that the city is involved”
“The problem in this case is that the city, through its joint development company, is a party involved in the real estate project. He owns 40% of SIC Courtille’s shares and the promoter 60% ”, underlines Jean-François Bridet, elected municipal official in Chartres and vice president of biodiversity of the regional council. However, it is the municipality that grants permission for the felling of trees, says the city councilor.
The three chestnut groves planted on the site of the Eure-et-Loir Chamber of Trades are “of great interest. They are in good health and host a great biodiversity, ”he continues.
On September 5, they were rescued from chainsaws by the Orleans Administrative Court. The city still has the opportunity to appeal. The judicial judge examined the request for eviction from the site on Monday. Judgment was reserved on 26 September.
