Riga, May 26, LETA. In the letter to the country’s top officials, the creative teams of the 12th Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival have indicated that in case of relocation of the Song and Dance Festival, they plan to lay down their powers and not continue their work.
The authors of the letter pointed out that in the spring of 2020, when the epidemiological situation in the country was incomparably better, but there was a lack of experience and knowledge about the development of the Covid-19 pandemic, a decision was made to postpone the celebrations to 2021.
“This decision is also enshrined in the Transitional Provisions of the Song and Dance Festival Law, which states that the festival must take place by the end of 2021. Looking back on a year-old history, we can already say that the decision to transfer was hasty, but appropriate in the current situation. “We are in different circumstances, with different experience and knowledge. Therefore, we do not consider the transfer for another year to be useful,” said the creative teams.
The authors of the letter noted that currently no one can predict the development of the epidemiological situation next year, despite the availability of vaccination in the country and the world, as there is more and more information about new and dangerous strains of the new coronavirus in Europe.
“Consequently, the belief in the transfer of the holiday is small, we would even say – negligible. The transfer is not possible even for professional reasons – the repertoire of this holiday is already being prepared for four school years. Neither educators nor students “By analogy, it would be to solve the same math problem for four or eight years. We, the artistic teams of the festivities, do not see the possibility of extending this process for another or another version – for another four years,” the letter said.
Creative teams also point out that the Song and Dance Festival must take into account, for example, the age of the participants, the specifics of the related psychological and physiological changes, changing age groups and voice registers, motivation to work. The authors of the letter emphasized that next year the school should start preparing for a new, 13th cycle of Latvian school youth song and dance festivals in 2025.
