It is an impossible mission. Speaking French in Vancouver or Toronto and getting an answer in Molière’s language is now exceptional. According to the Statistics Canada Institute, 6.8% of English Canadians can conduct a conversation in French. In Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, the most populous English-speaking provinces, less than 4% of residents speak it as their mother tongue. Only Quebec and the Acadian province of New Brunswick still widely use the founding language of the country.
