Canada has approved coronavirus vaccination for children aged five to 11. The decision was made by the country’s health authorities.
As the statement says press service the government of Canada on Friday, November 19, there is a condition for vaccinating children. The point is that only Pfizer / BioNTech products will be allowed to be vaccinated.
This makes the drug the first COVID-19 vaccine approved for use in Canada among this age group. This drug was previously approved for vaccinations for teenagers 12 to 15 (May 5, 2021), and in December 2020 for people over 16.
The government said in a statement that the benefits of the vaccine among children aged 5-11 outweigh the potential risks. They recalled that studies have shown that the immune response after vaccination in children of this age is the same as in persons from 16 to 25 years old. Its effectiveness for children is 90.7%. At the same time, during clinical trials, no serious adverse reactions were found.
Recall: in the Ministry of Health of Ukraine published an order, according to which it is allowed to be vaccinated against coronavirus disease adolescents from 12 to 17 years old. For this, in our country, they also recommend a drug from Pfizer / BioNTech. Thus, the Ministry of Health put into effect the decision of the operational headquarters on COVID-19, which previously recommended that the department approve the position of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunization (NTGEI) on this issue. We are talking about vaccination regardless of the risk group.
Note that the first country in the worldwhich made the coronavirus vaccination mandatory for children became Costa Rica in Central America. Citizens aged from 5 to 11 years old will begin immunizing with Pfizer in March 2022. The country has signed a contract with the manufacturer for 3.5 million doses, of which 1.5 million are for children.
