No room for more corpses
The increase in deaths has overwhelmed the health system and County funeral homes that no longer have the capacity to accept more bodies. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Department (DMEC) sent a statement in which it reported that it “installed refrigerated storage units” and that “the department is expanding its capacity to meet possible future demands.”

In a statement released Thursday, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services announced that a temporary morgue in the parking lot adjacent to the county coroner building to handle the influx of bodies. The facility will include at least five 53-foot state-supplied trailers and five more county-supplied, along with an unknown number of “refrigerated shore storage containers.” Additionally, a team from the California National Guard has been dispatched to the county coroner’s office to help handle the surge in fatalities.

Health authorities continue to ask to maintain social distancing. In addition, the use of masks is mandatory when you are with people who do not belong to your home and personal hygiene protocols must be followed, including continuous hand washing.
