In Calabria over one hundred vegetation fires in 48 hours

(ANSA) – CATANZARO, APRIL 14 – Over one hundred vegetation fires in the last 48 hours. The situation of the fires in Calabria is already critical, primarily due to the high temperatures of the last few days, which is not giving the firefighters any respite, engaged on many fronts with all the forces available. The fires developed, in particular, in the provinces of Catanzaro and Cosenza. The largest fire was the one in the Petronà area, in the Catanzaro area, for which a Canadair and a helicopter intervened to support the ground teams. The situation was also critical in Sersale and Cerva, also in the province of Catanzaro, where a large forest fire spread near the inhabited centers and the intervention of Canadair was necessary. Another large fire broke out in the “Colle Guerci” area, in the Sila Piccola National Park, in the Taverna area. The intervention of the firefighters allowed the fire to be put out and the site made safe, which houses one of the most significant biodiversity systems and within which an important agricultural company is located.
