In Britain, the attacker stabbed a Conservative MP
London, Oct. 15, LETA – AP / BBC. An unknown assailant in Britain clashed with Conservative MP David Ames, who died of his injuries, local media reported.
The attacker entered the Methodist Church in the eastern English town of Lee, home to the MP’s constituency reception center, and stabbed Eims, who represents Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party, several times.
Ames, 69, received help on the spot, but died of his injuries. Police arrested the attacker, who is 25 years old, shortly after the incident. No other people are being sought in connection with the attack.
Essex police said Ames did not breathe when law enforcement officers arrived at the scene.
Police have not provided information on the possible motive for the attack.
Ames has been a Member of Parliament since 1983 and one of the longest-serving members of the House of Representatives. In his political career he was a confident Eurosceptic.
In 2015, Queen Elizabeth II appointed her knight.
British politicians have been shocked by Ames’ murder, but Johnson said that “today we have lost a good servant of the people and many beloved friends and colleagues.”
“He was killed at his constituency’s reception center at the church after nearly 40 years of continuous service to the people of Essex and the whole of the UK,” Johnson said.
Violence against British politicians is rare, but in 2016, MP Joe Cox of the opposition Labor Party was stabbed and shot dead, killing in the attack.
