Summer is approaching and the reserves are considered too low by the French Blood Establishment. From Saturday 12 to Friday 18 June, it is launching an “event collections” operation in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. This week is also an opportunity to highlight culture and catering.

Since the end of March, the situation of blood reserves in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté has been alarming. Less than 85,000 bags are available, with a particularly large shortage for groups O and B. The shortage is also beginning to affect group A negative.
The EFS is therefore taking advantage of World Blood Donor Day to organize a series of 8 fundraising events in the largest cities in the region.

8 event collections in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
The first took place this Saturday in Auxerre. The others will take place successively:
- Chalon-sur-Saone, Monday June 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Meaning, Monday June 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Besancon, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 June from 11 am to 7 pm.
- Nevers, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 June from 12 to 6 p.m.
- Dijon, Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 June from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Belfort, Thursday June 17 from 11 am to 6 pm.
- Mâcon, Friday June 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This week is also an opportunity to highlight the sectors of culture and gastronomy. At each collection point, local restaurateurs or caterers will concoct snacks for donors. Cartoonists, dancers or theater groups will also be present to provide entertainment.
A call for help from the EFS
“Since 2010, we have been trying to have twelve days of blood stocks. It allows us to transfuse all patients in hospitals in the region“, explains Doctor Mohamed Slimane, deputy director of EFS Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.”Today, it is difficult to do so.”
The week of June 14 is critical for the EFS. When successful, World Blood Donor Day smooths stocks until August 15. “People go on vacation in the summer. Obviously, we receive fewer donations“, specifies Doctor Slimane.”Especially since the May holidays and deconfinement, we have already lost a lot. Hence the importance of this week.“
Note that the blood of vaccinated people is particularly sought after. The antibody level is indeed very high in these individuals, which can “save the lives of people who are sick“.
To meet the needs of patients in the region, 600 donations per day are needed. Currently, the numbers are between 500 and 550. This results in a “loss” of more than 200 donations per week.
