In Bordeaux, LR and Macronists unite to evaluate the security policy of the environmentalist town hall

Disagreeing over the security diagnosis of the city drawn up by Pierre Hurmic, two groups of municipal elected officials, led by Nicolas Florian and Thomas Cazenave, united to request its evaluation.

Le Figaro Bordeaux

In Bordeaux, security has been at the heart of public debate for several months. A fortnight after the irruption of a hooded and armed gang in the Saint-Michel district, Bordeaux Ensemble et Renouveau – the municipal opposition groups of former mayor Nicolas Florian (LR) and the ex-minister public accounts Thomas Cazenave (Renaissance) – join forces. In a letter dated Monday, co-signed and addressed to Pierre Hurmic, these opponents express their doubts about his “diagnosis of the security situation experienced by the city” et “municipal policies carried out and to be carried out to prevent delinquency”.

In this missive, that Le Figaro was able to consult, they request the creation of a information and evaluation mission on the evolution of delinquency and insecurity in Bordeaux, the policies implemented to deal with these phenomena, the missions and resources of the services which participate in them”. A suggestion, which will have to be deliberated at the next municipal council, on November 5, under the General Code of Local Authorities which provides for it, if the request comes from at least one sixth of the members of the municipal council. According to our sources, Pierre Hurmic’s entourage did not “no desire to thwart this request which will be processed without difficulty”. Basically, a source close to the mayor indicates that he is “too early” to comment on this approach, while recalling the “full investment” of the mayor of Bordeaux on the security aspect.

Municipal police under scrutiny

In their missive, which details the objectives of this mission, Bordeaux Ensemble and Renouveau Bordeaux present clear objectives. They wish to obtain a detailed report on the number of municipal police officers, the missions they carry out and the means made available to them to act. The oppositions also want this report to look at the working conditions of municipal agents who demonstrated last June to express their “deep discomfort” and ask to be equipped with firearms. If it is voted on by the next municipal council, this information and evaluation mission must therefore consult the municipal police officers while guaranteeing their anonymity, indicate the signatories. The latter also require an evaluation of the results of the incivility brigade, the horse brigade and the dog brigade, put forward by the environmentalist mandate.

Video protection

At the heart of a local controversy, which delayed the signing of the integrated security contract, the video protection system of the city of Bordeaux must also be scrutinized according to this letter. More generally, it is a precise right of review on the results of all the agreements signed between the Bordeaux town hall and the State services or associations which is also requested. If it is voted on, this evaluation and information mission on Bordeaux security will be carried out by elected officials on the municipal council.
