In Biéville-Beuville, barely 10 km from Caen (14), it all started for the mayor of the town on Monday March 8. “I learned that a resident was positive for coronavirus, it turned out that this person was part of the gym club, I closed all the rooms in the town, the library, prohibited gatherings of more than 50 people and on Tuesday, the school was also closed”explains the mayor of the village, Dominique Vinot-Battistoni.
The next day, Tuesday afternoon, all people from Biéville-Beuville who wanted to be tested were able to meet the health teams on site, in a communal hall. More than thirty participants in the gym club were already confined.
” Then, unsurprisingly, the number of contamination increased in the town, we went from 6 to 15, thus becoming a “cluster”, an epidemic focus, with grouped cases. “

She was one of the first people to test positive in Bieville-Beuville. Nadine was lucky not to fall seriously ill, but she insists on the need to remain confined as this coronavirus is contagious: “in my small group of ten girlfriends, we have all been contaminated”.
No deaths to date but two serious cases
But let’s be clear, our municipality is hard hit, we are at about sixty cases officially tested positive for C-19, at the level of the municipality this means that we are almost 100 times more affected than the rest of the department of Calvados. To date, 5 people have been hospitalized, two of whom are in serious condition… We remain a strong epidemic focus.
For the pharmacist, these official figures are below reality. “The family contagion in particular was strong but invisible. If we managed to trace certain contaminations, the members of the gym club were for example part of other clubs, today, the members of these families, the wives, the husbands , the children are no longer tested, they are simply confined. It is plausible to say that several hundred people are in fact infected in the village, with or without symptoms. ”
