This was announced by the head of the Department of Population, Gender and Family Policy of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection Svetlana Belash, writes BELTA.
According to her, the number of divorces in the country over the past decade as a whole has a downward trend.
“In 2021, 34.4 thousand divorces were registered, which is 11% less than in 2011, and 2% less than in 2020,” Belash specified.
According to statistics, young marriages began to break up less often. In 2020-2021, the peak of union breakdown has shifted from marriages of less than 5 years to longer unions.
In 2021, marriages lasting 5 to 10 years were the most likely to break up, 18.3% of marriages lasted 10 to 15 years, 10% were 15 to 20 years, and just over 14% were marriages 20 years or older.
The representative of the Ministry of Labor stated that today there is a decrease in the number of registered marriages in the country.
According to her, since 2011 the number of registered marriages in Belarus has decreased by 31%. First of all, this is due to the reduction in the number of people aged 20 to 30 by a third (35%).
“Young people of this age account for half of all those who marry. The most significant increase in marriages over the past decade was in 2021, up 18% from 2020,” Belash said.
Svetlana Belash noted that the average age of marriage in 2021 was 28.6 years for men and 26.3 years for women.
