In Belarus, a court sentenced 11 participants in “radical” Telegram chats to prison terms ranging from five to nine years. About it informs Human Rights Center Spring on Monday 19 July.
“They were found guilty under Articles 218 (intentional destruction or damage to property), 293 (participation in mass riots), 295 (illegal action against firearms and ammunition) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for a term of five to nine years in a maximum security penal colony “, – said in the message.
In particular, among the defendants are two members of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition, Rostislav Stefanovich and Sergei Plonis. They were sentenced to eight years in prison each – they allegedly participated in a Telegram chat of a “radical orientation” and also intended to damage or destroy three tobacco kiosks. At the trial, they pleaded not guilty.
Let us remind you that earlier in Belarus passed regular searches and detentions of journalists… The searches affected a dozen journalists and their relatives, three were detained. Also, the security forces broke into the editorial office and took away the office equipment.
