“He is gold Monsignor!” With the economic crisis, we could be tempted by the madness of grandeur, tempted to empty its bottoms of drawers, to resell the silverware and jewelry that sleep in our cupboards. The companies that buy our little treasures are multiplying. As proof, a new store has just opened in the city center of Beaune. L ‘Or en Cash’ opens its second branch in Côte-d’Or, less than a year after moving to Dijon. Here we redeem all the precious metals by weight. Maud Bonin manages this agency and explains the principles of this business to us:
The sign looks like the window of a real estate agency. It’s both understated and elegant with that “free estimate” promise. Obviously it catches the eye, but Delphine is not ready to part with her jewelry. “I have few” she explains “They all come from heirlooms and I place sentimental value on them, so I prefer to keep them.”
If we part with it, we might as well not give it a great sentimental value, because jewelry or silverware will be melted down to make ingots. The opening of this agency does not surprise this Beaunois who takes a look at the window “I don’t need these kinds of services, but it can undoubtedly help out if we are in difficulty. In all, if it exists, it is that people find their interest in it.”
The manufacture of computers, smartphones, medical devices increasingly require precious metals. Malou has already pushed open the door of this kind of shop. “The quotation offered for my jewelry was not very high, but prices have since gone up, maybe I should try a new expertise?” she smiles.
This brand does not just buy back the jewelry. The store also offers ingots for sale, from 300 euros. It attracts one in five customers. In times of crisis, gold and silver act as safe haven savings.
