In Bashkiria, 2,578 girls were vaccinated against the cancer-causing virus in a year. Schoolgirls between the ages of 9 and 13 received the HPV vaccine free of charge.
HPV is a human papillomavirus, there are about 200 types of it, of which 14 are considered oncogenic. Typically, up to 99% of cervical cancers are due to chronic HPV infection.
In Bashkiria, cases of cervical cancer have increased over five years, an increase from 2014 to 2019 amounted to 36.2%. This is partly due to the increased coverage of surveyed women. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, in 2019, doctors identified 234 pathologies of the cervix, including carcinomas – malignant tumors. The detection rate was 2.3%, although in previous years it was noticeably lower – 0.5%.
Recent research from the global scientific community shows that HPV vaccination reduces the risk of cervical cancer. For example, an analysis of data from the Danish health register showed that patients born in 1993 who were routinely vaccinated at the age of 15 have a the precancerous condition by the age of 26 was 30% less, than women born in 1983 who did not have the opportunity to get vaccinated as a teenager.
It is desirable to be vaccinated against HPV before the onset of sexual activity, so the regional program is designed for girls of school age. Free vaccinations will continue in 2021. To do this, you will need to contact the pediatrician of the polyclinic at the place of attachment.
