Stuttgart – The coronavirus mutation discovered in Great Britain has been detected in a woman in Baden-Württemberg.

It was the first known case in Germany, said the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health.

The woman entered Baden-Württemberg from Great Britain via Frankfurt / Main Airport on December 20. She is currently in domestic isolation.

A spokesman: “The person in question traveled to Germany by plane from London Heathrow via Frankfurt am Main Airport and is currently visiting relatives in the Freudenstadt district in Baden-Württemberg. When entering the airport, all passengers were tested for SARS-CoV-2, which was positive for the person concerned. “

It continues: “The person was picked up from the airport by relatives and has been in domestic isolation ever since. To confirm the diagnosis, a PCR test was carried out on December 21, 2020, which was also positive. The person developed mild symptoms of illness on the same day. A total of three close contact persons were identified, they are also in quarantine. “

The SARS-CoV-2-positive swab sample was sent for virus sequencing to the National Consultative Laboratory for Coronaviruses at Charité Berlin. The virus variant B.1.1.7 was detected from there on Christmas Eve.

The close contact persons have not yet fallen ill, their smear tests have been initiated.
