Sunday, February 12, at the end of the afternoon, an off-duty policeman from Villeurbanne is seated with friends on the terrace of the bar Le Tout va Bien, in Millau (Aveyron), reports the Midi Libre newspaper.
Around 5:40 p.m., a thirty-something, resident of this sub-prefecture of the department, comes to annoy the customers, asking in an aggressive tone for cigarettes or tobacco. The individual even jostles the waitress at the bar.
He comes back armed with a kitchen knife
Seeing the situation escalate, the Rhone official tries to ease the tensions, while ordering the thirty-something to leave the premises. What he does, before returning ten minutes later, armed with a kitchen knife, in order to do battle with the policeman.
After vainly asking the belligerent to drop his knife, the policeman disarmed him himself, before immobilizing him while waiting for the arrival of local colleagues.
The undesirable was placed in police custody “and will have to answer for acts of willful violence with a weapon before the criminal court.
The Villeurbannais policeman was, for his part, hailed by the Millau police station “for the courage and composure he showed”.
