In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 3,629 business leaders lost their jobs in 2020, but how many in 2021?

In 2020, 3,629 women and men business leaders lost their professional activity in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: these are the figures collected by the GSC association and the Altares company through the 5th edition of the Observatory of the employment of contractors. It seems very important. In reality no, since there was 40% less loss of professional activity among managers in 2020 compared to 2019: the measures taken by the government in the context of the Covid-19 crisis have partly temporarily protected executives from bankruptcy.

Good news and an explanation: the number of entrepreneurs in a situation of “unemployment” is decreasing in the whole region.

The whole of the Auralpin territory thus recorded a decrease in the number of entrepreneurs in a situation of job loss: the departments of Rhône (956 managers) and Isère (577 managers) alone account for nearly half of the losses. employment in the region.

In four other departments, the decline in managerial job losses is greater than the regional average: Loire (349; – 43.8%), Allier (119; – 42%), Haute-Savoie (369; – 41.5 %), Drôme (233; – 39.8%),

For Anthony Streicher, President of the GSC association which is developing insurance for the loss of managerial employment: “Despite a historic decline, there are 3,629 women and men entrepreneurs without activity in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: a level dramatically high. ”

For him, in fact, optimism is not appropriate: “These figures should encourage us to be extremely careful because the gradual end of aid will cause a real tidal wave. Our duty is to save and protect all entrepreneurs, who create wealth and jobs in our territories. ”

And to add: “I asked that the ceiling and the conditions of access to the allowance of the self-employed workers (ATI) be temporarily modified until June 30, 2022. But, beyond the situation of urgently, all leaders must be aware of existing safety nets and ways to protect their families, their income when everything crumbles. It is our collective responsibility to inform them to avoid dramatic situations. “

Experienced leaders first victims of the crisis

The median age of managers impacted in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is 48, a year more than in 2019. These “senior” and experienced business leaders will have more difficulty bouncing back after the liquidation is pronounced. judicial process of their business.

In the region, VSEs are the most affected by the crisis: almost half employed one to two employees (1,536 companies). However, it is SMEs, often established for several years in their sector, which have experienced the strongest growth: 33 companies had more than 50 employees in 2020 against 18 in 2019. This necessary agility in a context of crisis is not still firmly anchored in large-scale structures.

Frédéric Barth, CEO of Altares fears a sharp increase in executive job losses this year, but also next year: “Fortunately, the horizon is finally clearing up. The recovery is looming but with it, too, the hardening of the commercial and financial risk. The number of managers experiencing job loss should increase in 2021 and even more in 2022. This is why Altares and the GSC Association have been supporting this Observatory for the employment of entrepreneurs together for 5 years. Make every manager aware of the importance of guaranteeing themselves against job loss: a major social and economic issue ”

Construction and businesses most affected

The construction and trade sectors together account for nearly half of the job losses in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

The construction sector alone represents 809 of the business leaders concerned in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, very largely driven by the building activity (720 directors).

In the trade sector, in 2020, there were 810 company executives placed in liquidation in 2020.

In the field of accommodation, food and drink, 583 women and men found themselves unemployed in 2020. And in this context, not surprisingly, unfortunately, the catering sector alone concentrates three-quarters of business leaders who have lost their jobs …
