In autumn, the Latvian premiere of Aika Karapetjan’s black comedy Sam’s travels / Diena will take place

The movie sam’s travels, which had its world premiere at the largest North American genre film festival last November FantasticFest In Austin, USA, there is a peculiar fairy tale for adults – a black comedy, in which the sharpest viewers will be able to see the similarity of the story with an ancient Greek myth. The film tells the story of Sam, a Belgian, who goes to a remote part of Europe to look for his father. The search for his father takes him into a world Sam has never experienced before. As a result of unexpected turns of the situation, the Belgian falls into the captivity of a family of farmers, from where, as it turns out, only a small piglet can save him. According to the filmmakers, various original cinematography techniques were used in the making of the film in order to simultaneously talk about such classic themes as love, freedom, hatred, jealousy, etc.

“I am glad that Latvian viewers will have the opportunity to escape from reality and enter another world,” says director Aiks Karapetjans before the film’s premiere.

“We hope Aika Karapetyan’s black comedy sam’s travels, with which we will open the new Latvian cinema season, will be a turning point in genre cinema in Latvia. Since its world premiere in the USA, the film continues to gain audience response outside of Latvia, and we hope that it will also be appreciated by Latvian viewers,” said the film’s producer Gints Grūbe.

The main role in the film is played by the popular Belgian actor of European cinema, Kevin Jansen, who starred in such popular films as the film by director Coralie Ferger Revenge and Kristiana Volkmana The secret room. In the movie Sam’s travels the roles are also performed by young and promising, as well as experienced and already beloved Latvian actors – Laura Siliņa, Aigars Vilims, Juris Bartkevičs, Normunds Griestiņš. The operator is Jurģis Kmins (Bill, 1906 etc.), main artist – Jurģis Krāsons, make-up artist – Maija Gundare, costume designer – Liene Dobrāja, producers – Gints Grūbe and Inese Boka-Grūbe (Melanie’s Chronicle, Father Night, January u. c.).

It has already been reported that the Latvian and Belgian co-production film sam’s travels, made by the Latvian Film Studio Mistrus Media in joint production with a Belgian company Polar Bear, also earned the influential television network HBO Europe attention – it has acquired the right to show the film, thus confirming the cinematographic and content value of the Latvian film.
