In August, 3,500 attempts to illegally cross the Polish border from Belarus were registered, the Polish Border Guard said on Wednesday, September 1.
In about 2,500 cases, Polish border guards have managed to prevent the border from crossing, and about 1,000 illegal immigrants have been detained.
For comparison, in August 2020, no attempts were made to cross the 418-kilometer-long border between Belarus and Poland.
Meanwhile, the media has attracted the attention of a group of Afghan illegal immigrants, who are stuck in a neutral zone between the two countries’ borders near the town of Usnažgorn.
Charities say the situation of the 32 people in the group is steadily deteriorating.
Meanwhile, Polish border guards point out that the group is in fact “rotating” and that illegal immigrants are being supplied by the Belarusian secret services.
The Polish security services have demarcated the area, and charities and the media cannot access the group of illegal immigrants themselves.
