Two children were injured, in separate attacks, by a wild coyote in Scottsdale, a suburb of Phoenix, United States. The animal is still wanted by Arizona State Law Enforcement.
The two young children were probably scared of their lives. The incident occurred within days of each other in Scottsdale this week, where a 21-month-old first toddler was attacked by a coyote while playing in the driveway of his parents’ home.
On the images of the surveillance cameras of the house, we see the animal approaching furtively and biting the infant. He got scared when the child screamed. The latter’s mother arrived to take him to the shelter in the house and later told the local press that her son suffered only minor bite marks. She added that everything happened very quickly.
This Saturday, another child was attacked by a coyote, a few hundred meters from the first incident which occurred on Wednesday. The young boy was playing in a playground near an elementary school when the animal pounced on him. Fortunately, he only suffers from slight bite and claw marks on his stomach.
According to Darren Julian, wildlife specialist for the Arizona Game and Fish Association, coyote attacks are rare. This incident is the first since 2017 in the Phoenix area. The association asks parents to be extremely vigilant, even in their own garden, while local authorities are still looking for the animal.
