Kyiv: Russia will take over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council in April. The 15 countries of the Security Council hold the presidency every month. Russia previously held the presidency in February 2022. The Security Council will be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in discussions on ‘effective multilateralism’.
Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that a discussion on the West Asia issue will be held on April 25. Meanwhile, the US and Ukraine strongly criticized Russia’s presidency. White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that Russia, which has repeatedly violated the UN Charter and invaded neighboring countries, has no place on the UN Security Council, and unfortunately, they are on the Security Council.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Russia’s presidency is a slap in the face of the international community. He added that it was a joke and they would try to make fun of the presidency.
