In April, 23 Ukrainian vocalists and instrumentalists will revive the Ukrainian choral tradition in Nancy – Magnum la Radio!

A concert is organized on Sunday April 16 at 3:30 p.m., at the Salle Poirel…

In the current dramatic situation in Ukraine, a surge of solidarity was born and spread throughout France. Nancy was one of the first cities to provide support to many refugee families anxious to flee the fighting and bring their children to safety.

Among these refugees are artists and musicians prevented from practicing their art. Movement Music Chain For Ukraineborn in Belgium, was initiated by the Ukrainian pianist Natacha Kudristkaya. Objective: to raise funds through the organization of solidarity concerts to enable Ukrainian musicians to continue to perform, by financing their fees and their transport and accommodation costs.

The objective of this concert is to raise funds to allow Ukrainian musicians to continue performing…

Philippe FOSSEUX the President of the ALMC:

This movement continues its journey in France. A first concert took place in Paris on March 27, 2022 at the Petit Palais and the Seine Musicale hosted a second on May 24, 2022. Music Chain For Ukraine recently launched an appeal to concert halls and programmers for their support in the organization of concerts. The ALMC, Association Lorraine de Musique de Chambre, heard this call and proposed to the City of Nancy to join in a concert project in the magnificent setting of the Salle Poirel. A place that the ALMC knows well since it offers a season of 8 prestigious concerts there every year.

Organized jointly by the City of Nancy and the ALMC, a concert is organized on Sunday April 16, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. It will be a testimony of solidarity for the Ukrainian people and for refugee artists. An ambitious, united and artistic project. The scene of the Poirel room will host the women’s choir directed by Alissa Litvak. At the end of November 2022, a choir of Ukrainian women was created to allow Ukrainian refugees to meet regularly around music, in an atmosphere of sharing, creative and joyful. This choir was able to perform in different places and in particular on February 1st, Salle Gaveau in Paris. In Nancy, 23 singers will bring the Ukrainian choral tradition to life. This very old tradition is the reflection of an identity, the poetic mirror of an entire people. Sacred or folk, it represents the great cultural wealth of Ukraine.

The Four Bleu and Or, a Ukrainian professional ensemble currently in residence at the Philharmonie de Paris, will provide the instrumental part of the concert. On the program, a work by Boris Lyatoshynsky on folk themes. This composition dates from 1943, when this composer was himself in exile.

A participation of 10 € will be required for the entrance ticket. It will cover artists’ fees and travel expenses. Then, all profits will be donated to Music Chain For Ukraine to support them in their mission.

The Ukrainian singers and musicians will arrive in Nancy on Saturday afternoon, April 15. The organizers would like contacts to be established between artists and residents. They are therefore looking for volunteer families to welcome, for an evening and a night, one or two singers in their home. This will be an opportunity to feel, live, the realities of this war and the distress of these women, far from their spouses who have gone to fight.
