In an interview, Martin Réway revealed more about the most difficult moment of his career

He recently wrote a message on the social network that it took him eight years to become truly happy and free mentally.

Forward of Spišská Nová Ves and former Slovak ice hockey representative MARTIN RÉWAY in an open interview for Sportnet, he also revealed when he was going through the most difficult period in his career, who helped him get out of a difficult situation, and how he has changed over the years.

During your career, you played for several Slovak and foreign clubs. Which workplace do you remember the most?

I had better and worse seasons. After my injury in 2016, it got harder and harder. The seasons that came after that cannot be remembered in the best light. I believe that every experience is important and good for a person. You can learn from each in a certain way.

Was the hardest part for you when you had to miss the whole 2016/2017 season?

Certainly yes. I signed a contract with Montreal a month earlier and then health problems came (heart muscle problem, note). It wasn’t ideal.

How are you feeling right now?

It still has some impact on my health and performance. From a health point of view, I feel the best I have in the last six years, but I realize that my career could have developed in a completely different direction. I believe that things happen for a reason and everything is as it should be. Everyone is the mastermind of their own destiny.

Who helped you the most during a difficult period?

Girlfriend, family and friends. I am very grateful to them. The doctors told me at that time that I would not play hockey at the professional level again. I still believed that it was possible, it was just necessary to fight for it. This is also why the past five to six years have not been completely ideal for me from the point of view of individual performance. I am very lucky to be able to play hockey and do what I enjoy. I try to do my best to be able to prepare for each new season.

It was very frustrating that even though I was doing what I was supposed to in my workouts, no results were visible. Now it has finally changed and that is important for me from a mental point of view.

Did you have to significantly change your lifestyle – did you start eating healthier and exercising more?

I tried changing the barrel. I didn’t know what exactly could help me. I have had multiple fitness plans from different trainers. Only recently have I started to feel progress and since then I’ve been doing what suits me and benefits my body in terms of training.

It’s great to see that it makes sense. It is important for every player to see progress. I am glad that my performance is also moving in a good direction and I can be beneficial to the team after a long time.

You recently added a photo on your Instagram profile with the caption that it took you eight years to become truly happy and free mentally. How does it manifest itself and what advice would you give to those who are looking for the same thing as you?
