In Amiens, Raymonde prepares Christmas letters for the residents of a retirement home

Less than a month before the end of year celebrations, France Bleu Picardie tells you the great initiative of an Amiénoise. Raymonde, 84 years old is a volunteer Bras d’sus bras d’sous association. For six years, she has missed almost a Monday visit to a downtown retirement home.

Visits prohibited

More with the two successive lockdowns imposed to stem the coronavirus epidemic, these visits have been stopped. “Personally, it was very hard for me because I was regular every Monday”, says Raymonde who forged strong links with residents.

We receive very little mail now. So I write to everyone, I tell them to keep hope, to keep smiling. It’s personalized. I also tell anecdotes like for example about the 800 years of the cathedral.

It’s to keep this precious link that in March she started writing letters to each of the 70 boarders. Very personal letters. “It’s theirs, it’s theirs, and I have feedback, answers boarders who very much appreciate receiving them, “says Raymonde.

For Christmas, Raymonde tinkers. She cuts in golden cardboard stars with a note on the back. “It keeps me busy”, she said, also adding thatshe can’t wait to be able to return to visit.”
